Workplace Fitness and Movement
From the (previous) Department of Premier and Cabinet
Extract from Acting Chief Executive's Newsletter:
It is important that we all continue to prioritise our health and safety in the workplace. Recent research and commentary highlights the need to think about our fitness and how we move about during our working day.
There are certainly times when bums on seats is precisely what you are trying to achieve (figuratively of course) but research just published has discovered that there is a catch, especially for those of us who are office workers and spend most of our days sitting.
I urge everyone to follow the latest advice and get up and move around for at least every half hour or so.
Apparently if we do this, we can help to avoid an increased risk of metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease and early death. I recommend this ABC radio interview between Dr Norman Swan and Assoc. Professor David Dunstan, from the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, Melbourne.
